Kimi Räikkönen: “I obviously have nothing to lose”

Left behind in the title race, Kimi Räikkönen showed that he still had to be reckoned with to play the leading roles this weekend in Great Britain. The 2007 world champion came closest to being untouchable Lewis Hamilton in qualifying, more than five tenths behind the Briton of Mercedes.

The resident of the Team Ferrari, however, admitted to having remained unanswered in the face of the ease of the Hamilton – Mercedes W08 tandem. « The car behaved well, Iceman explains. I don't know exactly how far away from first place we were, but I have a very good hunch about where we are losing time. »

Ferrari more comfortable in racing

Reason for hope for the Finn, the capacity of the car Italian to show itself more to its advantage in racing conditions. Enough to at least aim for the podium according to the former driver McLaren and Lotus. “I think we have a good car, unfortunately not fast enough, but for the race we hope we can (Mercedes) challenge.

There are two of us, and we will try to make the best of this. » Räikkönen and Hag will in fact benefit from the five-place penalty imposed on Valtteri Bottas, who will start in ninth position, to try to threaten Lewis Hamilton.

« We try, we try, and we'll see what happens, admitted Räikkönen, questioned on this subject by Jenson Button just after qualifying. I obviously have nothing to lose, so we will try to have a good race for the team and get on the podium. »
