Kimi Räikkönen tested the Halo in Barcelona

Kimi Räikkönen was able to test the Halo system this morning during the seventh day of testing in Barcelona at the Circuit de Catalunya.

The pilot of the Team Ferrari completed several installation laps before returning to the pits to give its report on this new protection installed above the cockpit which should protect the driver's head in the event of debris on the track. “The first impression is positive. The structure does not obstruct visibility », indicated the 2007 world champion.

Red Bull et Mercedes also developed a protection system. That of the Austrian team is based on the principle of a bubble installed above the cockpit while the concept of the star-studded team is similar to that of Scuderia Ferrari.

The FIA could introduce this protection system as early as 2017. Other single-seater championships could also adopt this concept, notably theIndyCar following the accident of Justin Wilson who was fatally injured in 2015 in Pocono (Pennsylvania).
