Kobayashi makes promising debut at Caterham F1

Kamui Kobayashi proved during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix that he had lost none of his fighting spirit after his season spent in WEC with AF Corsica. While he had only covered one lap on Friday due to problems with his Caterham's battery, the Japanese managed to take 14th position (taking advantage of the penalty of Valtteri Bottas) after only covering 19 laps during the last practice session. The Japanese driver achieved the best performance for Tony Fernandes' team since the last Belgian GP where Giedo van der Garde took 14th place on the grid.

“We were able to work a little on the settings during the last test session, but I had problems with the engine mapping which complicated my task at the wheel even though it is a very important parameter with these new engines », explains the former Sauber driver F1 team. “We made some changes for qualifying and they worked. It's not perfect yet, but we've made good progress and we can hope for much more tomorrow. I will be very proud to represent my country in F1 again and I am very happy that it is with Caterham. I think we deserve more days like this. »

His teammate Marcus Ericsson will start from 19th place, taking advantage of the penalty imposed by Esteban Gutiérrez, for his first Grand Prix in F1.

The Australian Grand Prix will be contested from 7 a.m. French time and can be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr. Photos from the weekend can be found on this link.
