Kubica had signed with Ferrari before his accident

Robert Kubica had signed a contract to drive for the prestigious Team Ferrari from the 2012 season. The Pole saw his career in F1 stop suddenly when he was seriously injured in a car accident rally at the Ronde di Andora leaving him disabled in his right hand.

“The team I was supposed to ride for wouldn't have allowed me to rally, explained Robert Kubica in a podcast produced by F1 before confirming the identity of the team. The first objective was to enter F1, the second was to be established there in order to have a good reputation. It's even more difficult than finding a steering wheel. The third was to win the title or become a Ferrari driver. I didn't win the title, but I almost became a pilot with them. »

Robert Kubica admitted that this wasted opportunity made his convalescence even harder to cope with.

“My recovery was so difficult that it didn't make me suffer for the first 18 months. I was fighting to get out of this tumultuous period. But the more time passed, the harder it became because the hope that things would get better faded. There were times when I made very clear progress and others when I fell back six months because the operations were not going well. It was painful not to be in F1 anymore, but it was even more painful knowing that I should have been at Ferrari., added the Pole.

Robert Kubica is now a test driver at Williams after almost being a starter this year.
