Kubica will replace Räikkönen in FP1 at Alfa Romeo in Budapest

Robert Kubica is preparing to return to the circuit where he made his Grand Prix debut with BMW Sauber in 2006. The team is now called Alfa Romeo and counts the Pole as 3rd driver since this winter.

After replacing Antonio Giovinazzi in Free Practice 1 of the Styrian Grand Prix last week, Kubica, whose sponsor Orlen is included in the official title of the Hinwil (Switzerland) based team, will board the C39 usually driven by Kimi Räikkönen during FP1 of the Hungarian GP.

Frédéric Vasseur underlined the importance of the Krakow native's contribution to the development of the Alfa.

« Robert is a major asset in advancing our car quickly and efficiently, commented the French manager. He did a very good job last weekend in Austria and his technical feedback is proving valuable ».

The links that unite the Hungaroring to Kubica are not limited to its first appearance in F1. It was also on the Magyar turnstile that the Pole made his comeback aboard a Grand Prix single-seater in 2017 with Renault, 6 years after his terrible accident rally which almost cost him the use of his right arm.
