Kubica-Renault: A long history

Robert Kubica arrives at a house he knows from having already carried out tests on behalf of Renault F1 at the end of the 2005 season. But from 2001, the year of his accession to car, Robert Kubica maintains close ties with the diamond firm. He thus participates jointly in the Italian Formula Renault 2.0 and the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championship. within the RC Motorsport team. Spotted by Renault, he then joined Renault Driver Development (RDD), a program for detecting young talents, and continued his apprenticeship in both disciplines the following season.

Ejected from the RDD at the end of 2002, Kubica went into exile in F3 Euro Series. Shortly before the start of the season, however, he suffered a traffic accident which prevented him from starting the championship. But the Pole did not miss his comeback and won in his first race at the Norisring. In 2004, he rose to second place in the prestigious Macau Grand Prix after taking pole position and setting the fastest lap in the race.

In 2005, he returned to Renault to continue his apprenticeship. He then participated in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in the Epsilon Euskadi team led by Joan Villadelprat. Kubica scored four victories and three pole positions, which earned him the title of champion at the end of the season. Ironically, his title once again opened the doors of Renault F1 to him where he carried out a test with the team, three years after his ouster from the RDD. Although he carried out promising tests, he was however blocked by the drivers already in place in the crowned World Champion team. It will only be postponed.

The Pole then signed with BMW as third driver before making his debut in Hungary in place of Jacques Villeneuve. It didn't take long for him to shine by winning his first podium at Monza during his third GP. Kubica then gains momentum and signs his first? and so far unique – victory in 2008 during the Canadian Grand Prix, a year after suffering a terrible accident on the same circuit.

After a lackluster 2009 where the F1.09 performed too poorly, Robert Kubica announced his departure from Renault at the end of the season following the withdrawal of the Bavarian manufacturer. To date, the Pole has competed in 55 Grand Prix for BMW, during which he reached the podium eight times and scored 129 points.
