Kubica expects everything in Korea

Starting in third position on the Suzuka starting grid, Robert Kubica saw his hopes of a podium disappear after losing a wheel on the third lap of the race while he was in second place after passing Mark Webber at the start. The Pole tried to take a step back before preparing for the next race in Korea. “ I didn't expect to be so fast. I was surprised to be so well placed on the grid but in the end, it didn?t pay off », lamented the pilot Renault.

Nevertheless, Robert Kubica tries to draw the positive sides from the Japanese weekend, where the R30 was expected. “ It's part of racing, problems can arise without warning. However, I was pleasantly surprised by our level of performance. »

The Renault driver has already turned the page to concentrate on the new Yeongam track. In the absence of a simulator, Robert Kubica prepares as best he can. “ I watched the videos on YouTube and am collecting as much information as possible to share with the team », continued the Pole. “ The trail looks quite interesting. It offers a bit of everything: long turns, fast and slow sectors, and the last sector seems quite difficult. »

But the main unknown that concerns the entire paddock remains knowing the level of grip of the circuit, the surface of which has just been completed. “ The level of grip of the asphalt will be of paramount importance. If the grip is good, the turns will be easy but if it is poor, they will be a real challenge. We have already been able to realize this year, in Hockenheim and in Canada, that the new coatings significantly change the grip. This makes it difficult to predict what will happen in Korea, and to judge our competitiveness compared to our adversaries. »
