Kubica expects difficult end to season

On the streets of Singapore, Robert Kubica once again displayed all his talent. The Pole, certainly on new tires unlike his rivals, managed to overtake five of his opponents in the space of a few laps, to collect the points for seventh place. This weekend, the pilot Renault finds Suzuka, a route he likes more than any other, and renowned as one of the most complicated.

“It is the most difficult, the most technical and it is very very fast, explains the 3.5 Formula Renault 2005 Series champion. If you count the number of really fast corners it has, that is to say negotiated in fourth gear and beyond, I think it exceeds all the other circuits in the championship. The first sector is incredible: the Esses are like a roller coaster that alternates lateral forces from one side then the other. The turns are very long and it is difficult to keep the ideal trajectory. This is all the more true as the price for each small error made in a turn is paid on all the following ones. In addition, there are two low-speed corners, and the chicane which represents a very important braking zone. It is possible to overtake. The margin for error is very narrow at Suzuka because there is no clearance on the tarmac. As soon as you get out, it's in a gravel trap. Usually, from the outside, we don't necessarily realize that a driver is making a mistake: he puts a wheel on a curb, goes into the runoff, then comes right back onto the track. At Suzuka, it doesn't work the same way: if you put a wheel off the track, you don't get back on it. I prefer this kind of track, this way of driving, this way of racing. »

After having moved somewhat closer to the cars of the three leading teams, namely Red Bull, McLaren et Ferrari, the R30 seems to be marking time a little. The Pole also expects to experience a difficult season, aboard a car which should not receive any new developments. An end to the season which should see him fight behind the three leading teams fighting for the attribution of world titles.

“Our performances will remain quite similar, He continues. We will do our best, but I don't think the end of the season will be very easy for us. We do not have any fundamental technical developments in preparation, our competitiveness will therefore depend on the new developments adopted by the other teams. This will have a big impact on our final position and how we look at the end of the season. »

With 114 points on the clock, Robert Kubica is seventh in the provisional general classification, eight points behind Nico Rosberg in sixth. Catching up seems difficult. The young German, who has three good results, shows incredible consistency, very rarely making mistakes. But the number 1 driver of the French team, author of numerous brilliant coups this season, could, once again, surprise more than one observer.
