Kubica is getting back to health

At Interlagos, the podium was less observed than usual. World champion but only fifth, Jenson Button remained on the tarmac to celebrate his title, drawing the camera lens to his infectious joy. But, on the podium, three men were happy to be there, starting with Robert Kubica, in the spotlight after a difficult season. Future pilot Renault, the Pole returned to an unattainable podium during the first two thirds of the season.

This Sunday, the BMW driver was able to extricate himself from the peloton with skill, before taking advantage of the Trulli-Sutil accident and Rubens Barrichello's poor strategy to climb to second place. “ The basis for today?s (Sunday) result was decided yesterday (Saturday) when we took the risk of reducing downforce on the wet track during qualifying. »

For the Pole, this qualifying session allowed him to do well in the race. “ It went well in Q1, less well in Q3. Even though some people were disappointed with my eighth place, I was personally very satisfied. Today (Sunday) we had good pace and consistency. »

Robert Kubica, who did not finish very far from Mark Webber, even admits that he was surprised to be able to join the fight for the first places. “ I was surprised to follow Rubens Barrichello and Mark Webber so easily. But I had to reduce my engine speed after fifteen laps due to the high water temperature. After my first stop, I was unlucky and found myself stuck behind four cars. From that moment on, Mark was able to widen the gap. »

Finally second after a solid race, Robert Kubica is delighted with this first podium of the year. “ This is a very good result during a difficult season and I really hope to see the team on the grid next year. »
