Kubica wants to transform the test

Robert Kubica, eleventh in the Bahrain Grand Prix, was disappointed with his result during the inaugural race of this new season. Starting in tenth position, he made a mistake in the first corner before maintaining a good pace. Despite everything, this Grand Prix had the advantage of allowing the Pole to see that the potential is indeed there. Exploratory work that he will have to continue in Melbourne.

« I will need two more races, I think, to be really clear on the situation, because certain aspects of the Bahrain circuit are quite particular, attests Kubica. But I am optimistic. We did not show our real potential in qualifying and during the race, for different reasons. Seventh position was realistic in both cases. Not being able to achieve this was disappointing but it is encouraging to know that we had the means to do it. »

Even if the other teams have competitive single-seaters, Robert Kubica is convinced that Renault will be able to do well. The former BMW-Sauber driver is convinced that the Losange team has what it takes to stand out.

« The R30 has a lot of advantages. We work hard to refine what we already do well, and to improve where we still need improvement. This year, the race not only takes place on the circuit but also at the factory for the supply of new developments. The team ofenstone worked 24 hours a day, 24 days a week to produce the new products and the first results in Bahrain allowed us to take a significant step forward in terms of performance. »

Like many pilots (Schumacher, Button?), Robert Kubica is convinced that his car will behave better on the Melbourne circuit than in Bahrain. He at least hopes that the full potential of the R30 can be exploited.

« Before the season started, I had the impression that Melbourne would suit us better than Bahrain. Now that we have seen the other cars on track and have gathered more information about our positioning, I am convinced that it will be a good circuit for us. The grip will be quite low at the start of the weekend and it will be necessary to work on mechanical grip, behavior on bumps as well as braking stability. I hope our performance will be good in order to exploit the full potential of the car. »
