Kvyat wasn't attacking when setting his best lap

Daniil Kvyat emerged in the final minutes of Wednesday's practice session to put his Honda-powered STR14 at the top of the timesheet with a time of 1:17.704 set on Pirelli's softest C5 compound.

« I wouldn't say that I was completely, replied the Russian when asked if he was at the limit in his best flying lap. During the tests, you don't want to end the day in the wall but you want to have the most exact feeling possible behind the wheel so you can't drive with your elbow to the door. It was not bad

I would be lying to you if I told you that I am not satisfied with today's performance but we have to remain realistic. We must continue to work hard, rack up the laps, and understand the car better to extract more performance from it. »

With 137 revolutions of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya under his belt, Kvyat was one of the most diligent drivers on track on Wednesday, something he was particularly happy with after an opening day that fell short of expectations in this regard with 77 rounds.

« We would have liked to ride more the first day but we were able to recover the lost time today, added the one who is making his return in F1 this season. We always want to have more. If we could do 200 laps, we would happily do it. My neck probably wouldn't like it but I'd be up for it.

The priority was to react after a first day which had not been ideal. The guys on the team must be satisfied with the job done. We must continue on this path, add more kilometers, give as much data as possible to Honda engineers, and build trust together. ».

The teams still claim not to pay any kind of attention to the timesheet during winter testing, but that didn't stop Kvyat from leaving the circuit feeling like a job well done on Wednesday evening.
