Future of 2020 Canadian GP decided before May 1

Initially scheduled for the weekend of June 14, departing at the same time as the 24 Hours of Le Mans before the postponement of the Sarthe double clock tour due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Canadian Grand Prix still remains uncertain given the current situation around the world.

The test that could open the season F1 2020, given the current postponements and cancellations (from Australia to Vietnam), has not yet set its date in stone, as the organizers confirm.

“Government directives and closures are in effect until April 13, specifies François Dumontier, president of the Grand Prix, quoted by Radio Canada after a conference call.

We will see after this date if we can organize it on the planned date. I am confident, but I am also lucid. We will therefore make an official announcement between Easter and May 1st to find out if the Grand Prix will take place on June 14th or if it will be postponed.

I will wait until as far as I can be ready for editing. Our event will not be canceled, that’s for sure, unless the season is canceled. »

For the manager, a postponement could see the Montreal round contested at the end of the summer or in the fall, which would bring the race closer to its roots, since the first editions on the Ile Notre-Dame circuit, took place in October, notably the first in 1978, where Gilles Villeneuve won with his Ferrari.
