The organization in place did not work according to Frédéric Vasseur

Last Wednesday, Renault Sport F1 Team and Frédéric Vasseur formalized their separation “by mutual agreement” after only one year of collaboration.

The former Team Principal of ART Grand Prix arrived as competition director of Renault Sport Racing for the return of Losange as a manufacturer in F1, before being named Team Principal of the F1 team last July .

“We came to the conclusion that the organization in place was not functioning or poorly and that it would be a disservice to the team to continue like this, explained Frédéric Vasseur yesterday on Canal + Sport.

We discussed the month of December, and all this to arrive at the conclusion that it was better to stop. F1 is demanding. We need, especially in the context of Renault where we were more in the reconstruction of a team than in a continuous line, to have a single leader.

Big teams have been built like this in the past. We need to have a strong leader who shows direction. » Vasseur also admitted to differences of point of view with Renault management.

Jérôme Stoll, president of Renault Sport Racing, and Cyril Abiteboul, general manager of Renault Sport Racing, will remain in charge, as indicated in the French brand's press release.

Cyril Abiteboul also clarified yesterday that Frédéric Vasseur would not be replaced in his position initially.
