"The oval" used for the second race in Bahrain

It was expected, we now have confirmation. There Formula 1 will take the “oval” configuration of the Bahrain circuit for the second race organized in the country, the weekend of December 4-6.

Since several grand prix are being considered in Bahrain, there was even talk of three at one point, speculation was rife on the routes used. The circuit has many possibilities, including the usual Formula 1 grand prix track of 5,412 km, the so-called endurance configuration of more than six kilometers and therefore the “oval”.

Ultimately, this season, the Bahrain Grand Prix will take place on the usual track and the Sakhir Grand Prix on the “oval”.

If the first opus will take place at the end of the day, the qualifications and the race for the second event will be held entirely at night, on the 3,543 kilometer route. A distance and above all an unusual configuration for a Formula 1 circuit. In the race, the drivers will cover 87 laps of the circuit, on which times are announced around 55 seconds.

“We considered many options for an alternative circuit layout and concluded that the outdoor circuit would be the best solution and would provide a new challenge for the teams and delight the fans with high speeds and very fast laps” commented Ross Brawn, Director of Motor Sport at Liberty Media.
