The F1 Commission against the alternative engine

The idea seemed well launched since the call to come forward issued by FIA intended for potential engine manufacturers to develop an alternative engine, with a view to introduction by 2017.

A solution considered by the Federation after the veto filed by Ferrari on cost cap on customer engines and gearboxes. However, the Commission F1, meeting yesterday in Paris, did not go in the same direction as the international authorities.

The idea of the reciprocating engine was not supported by the Commission. The FIA, on the other hand, has specified that the engine manufacturers currently involved in the World Championship could present their ideas concerning the costs for customer teams, noise, the technical simplification of Power Units? by January 15, 2016. A first meeting will be held this week in Abu Dhabi, on the sidelines of the 2015 season finale.

A rule establishing a minimum number of teams to be supplied by engine manufacturer should also emerge to ensure engine supply to the teams. All these measures must be applied no later than 2018. The FIA has also clarified that four expressions of interest had indeed been submitted for the alternative engine (in particular Illmor, as we indicate in issue 2039 of AUTOhebdo), a solution which could however be re-evaluated according to the proposals submitted by the engine manufacturers.
