Mick Schumacher would have undoubtedly liked to start his first adventure in Japan in a different way by Formula 1. Got back out on rain tires to carry out a departure procedure after recording the 7e time of EL1, and while the checkerboard was agitated, the driver Haas made a mistake at the Dunlop curve which leads to the Degner bend at the end of the first sector.

A slight loss of control which had a big impact on his VF-22. Indeed, this trip to the Suzuka setting could be very expensive for Mick Schumacher, whose mechanics were forced to immediately change the chassis to avoid any problems for the rest of the weekend.

At the microphone F1TV, Guenther Steiner, Haas team principal, returned to the incident involving his driver whose future within the team is increasingly called into question. “ It's disappointing, regretted the leader of the American team. We just went out to do a race start to get some data for Sunday, and Mick crashed the car. He hydroplaned and crashed into the rail, which damaged the car quite badly. The whole front is broken but we also have to change the chassis because we don't know if there is a crack and we can't take risks. You better be 100% sure the car is in good condition for Saturday »

In the wall at the end of FP1, Mick Schumacher had to watch 2e session of the day at Suzuka on television while his team was rehabilitating his car. An episode which should not work in his favor as he seeks to secure a seat on the grid for the 2023 season.
