Disappointment prevails for Mark Webber in Korea

Si Sebastian Vettel seemed the fastest on the Yeongam circuit, but it was ultimately Mark Webber who was on pole at the Korean Grand Prix ahead of his teammate. His advantage on the grid was not very useful since the Australian ceded control of the race to the German from the third corner on the first lap. The pole-sitter was unable to retake the first RB8, which allows Sebastian Vettel to take the lead in the Championship with a six-point lead over Fernando Alonso. The Asturian placed third in the event without being able to catch up with Mark Webber who was nevertheless suffering with his tires.

“My start wasn't sensational, I'll have to revisit that but it wasn't a great way to start”, recognizes Mark Webber at the end of the race. “It wasn't the best corner to take control of the race but I was still well placed against Sebastian. We were side by side in the straight (without managing to regain the advantage). Then I just tried to do the best I could. The tires were my only worry during the race, I had to be wary of the right front tire at the end of each stint. It was difficult to maintain it, so the first two stints were complicated for me, but I was more comfortable with the balance of the car in the last relay. It was still too late to get back into the lead of the race. Seb rode well, it was a superb day for the team (which achieved its first double of the season). I am obviously disappointed but I am paradoxically satisfied to achieve a good result. »
