The E20 as effective in Barcelona as in Mugello?

Lotus assured that it had a car efficient and the podium of Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean on the Sakhir circuit suggest thatenstone was not mistaken. The British team took advantage of the Mugello tests to concentrate on working on the suspensions, which did not prevent Romain Grosjean from setting the best time of the three days of testing. “The (Barcelona) package will include revised versions of the front and rear drums, front wing and underbody”, explains James Allison. “None of these elements were used at Mugello, but we expect to see them appear during a Friday session soon. Our main objective at Mugello was to answer fundamental questions regarding suspension design. This wasn't just about a spring or an anti-roll bar, but a comparison between two complete suspension architectures. It was a question of whether we were following the right direction in the design of the car. »

If the trip to Italy proved convincing for Eric Boullier and his men, only the Spanish Grand Prix will allow us to observe the teams' real progress. The Lotus technical director therefore remains cautious about the times achieved at Mugello. “I wouldn't necessarily say that because we were competitive at Mugello, we will be competitive at all the others. It is very different from the circuits we normally frequent and we do not know what the objectives of the other teams were in Italy. That said, it's always nice to be at the top of the peloton rather than at the bottom and the performance of the E20 is always just as encouraging, whatever the circuit. We look good on circuits with aerodynamically demanding corners, on abrasive surfaces and in above-average temperatures. We should find these elements in Barcelona, so let's hope the trend continues. »
