E22 is legal according to Nick Chester

When broadcasting images of the future car of Lotus, most observers focused on the particularly original nose of the E22. “Divided” into two parts of different sizes, this muzzle raised certain questions. Nick Chester, technical director of the teamenstone, would like to clarify the situation. “ As you know, we have passed all the necessary crash tests and we are very confident that our design complies with all FIA requirements. » explains Chester on the Lotus website F1 team. “We took an innovative direction, different from other teams. Where there is so much variation in design, there are always discussions, but we stay focused and relaxed. »

He also discusses the absence of the team in Jerez and the possible consequences. “It’s always interesting to see what solutions other teams have. Obviously you can't see under the bodywork of the cars, where the majority of the design work takes place, but it's still interesting to see the different aero packages on the other single-seaters. We will look at the different body options. As we can see, there are many different solutions in Jerez. We expected a radical change in regulations. There seem to be some elegant solutions and some that definitely don't look as good! We're very happy with the direction we've taken, and it will be very interesting to see how the cars perform once we get out on track to compete against the competition. »

Lotus will be at the Bahrain meeting, from February 19 to 22.
