F1 plans to review its sporting regulations

The 5 second penalty imposed on Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) at the Canadian GP is still in everyone's minds. Last weekend during a soporific French GP, it was Daniel Ricciardo (Renault) who suffered the wrath of the marshals after trying to liven up the race a little on the last lap.

Faced with its problems of sanctions limiting the risk-taking of drivers, the FIA retains the possibility of modifying its sporting regulations for the 2020 season.

“We always consider the rules the same way, assured Michael Masi, the new race director of the F1 who replaces the late Charlie Whiting. We have a regulation that is valid for the full season of 2019. I do not believe it is wise to change anything in any sport in the middle of the year. However, we must study the question. We are always trying to improve everything. »

A change to the sporting regulations would have to be validated by all the teams. The FIA is also hampered by the international sporting code which covers all disciplines.

“It would be no different from any other rules if all teams agree, added Michael Masi. There is, however, the international sporting code. It has its own processes which are not specific to F1 but for all motorsport. »
