F1 would consider setting up customer teams

The Strategy Group F1 met this Thursday, May 14 in Biggin Hill (Great Britain) to reflect on the future prospects of the discipline which has been losing momentum in recent years. The meeting was held with Bernie Ecclestone, the executive director of F1, Jean Todt, the President of the FIA, and the six main teams: Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, Williams, McLaren and Force India which took the place of Lotus F1 Team.

The main objective was to find solutions to reduce costs that increasingly complicate the financial situation of small teams. But the teams present at the meeting were unable to reach an agreement.

On the other hand, according to several sources including The Guardian, the Strategy Group would have discussed the establishment of customer teams present alongside Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren to complete the starting grids. These structures would be supplied with cars and engines by the four main teams, which would mark the end of the smaller teams.
