F1 could host up to ten Sprint weekends as early as 2027

The number of Sprint weekends in Formula 1 will increase significantly in 2027. This was confirmed by F1 president Stefano Domenicali in an interview with Sky Sports at Silverstone, as the format celebrated its fifth anniversary this weekend. 

In 2021, Formula 1 launched its new format, the Sprint Weekend, not without skepticism. Five years later, the figures speak for themselves: Sprint Weekends generate peaks in attendance and television viewership that classic weekends don't always reach. 

At Silverstone on Friday, July 3, 150,000 spectators were present in the stands — a massive argument that Stefano Domenicali did not fail to use. "With the 150,000 people we had at Silverstone on Friday, if you don't offer something with action, it would be a mistake.", he told Sky Sports.

The president of the F1 also confirmed that the 2027 calendar would be unveiled "Very, very soon", with an increase in the number of Sprints integrated into the announcement. "We are announcing a larger number for the future, and that will come when we announce the schedule. Stay tuned."he added, without specifying a date.
