F1 considering new engine for 2021

The FIA indicated in a statement that it had organized this Thursday March 31 in Paris a meeting with several shareholders of the F1, including the new owners Liberty Media, as well as the current engine manufacturers (Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault and Honda) and other manufacturers and engine manufacturers not involved in the discipline.

More powerful and noisy motors

The objective of this meeting concerned a change of engine in F1 by 2021. The agreement focuses on:
– The desire to keep F1 at the top of motorsport and to be a laboratory for new technology for touring cars.
– Future engines are also expected to be more powerful while being less complex and cheaper to develop and produce.
– Noise should also be increased.
– Steering should also be made more complicated.

“I am delighted that so many participants have reached agreement in such a technical area in F1, declared Jean Todt, president of the FIA. We obviously need to discuss the details on the 2021 Power Units, but we are off to a good start and I look forward to working on this project which will be the best decision for the future of F1. »

The current Power Unit used in F1 is the 6l turbo/hybrid V1.6 developing between 900 and 1000hp and being 30% more economical than the previous generation of engines.
