F1 opposes Ecclestone's comments on racism

During an interview with CNN, the former financier of the F1 Bernie Ecclestone was invited to speak on racism, a subject which is shaking some championships like Nascar. By Lewis Hamilton as the only black driver on the grid, the flagship single-seater championship is not spared from the problem either. The six-time world champion recently launched a commission to improve diversity in motorsport.

Bernie Ecclestone was invited to react on the subject. Former F1 boss made questionable remarks during his interview on the American channel.

“I don’t think it will do F1 any harm or good, did he declare. It'll just make people think about what's most important. I think it's the same for everyone... In many cases, black people are more racist than white people. »

The F1 organizers were quick to react even though they want to fight for fairer diversity.

“At a time when unity is needed to combat racism and inequality, we completely disagree with Bernie Ecclestone's comments which have no place in F1 or in society. Mr Ecclestone has had no role in F1 since leaving our organization in 2017. His honorary title of Chairman Emeritus expired in January 2020., indicated F1 by the community.

The championship organizers recently launched a “ Task Force » to improve diversity in the discipline.
