Mandatory closure of teams and engine manufacturers extended by two weeks

La Formula 1 extends its vacancy. The mandatory closure of summer teams, also called “shutdown” among our friends across the Channel, had already been brought forward to March, April and/or May due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This Tuesday, April 7, the Strategic Group, the teams and the Sports Commission and the World Council of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) agreed to extend this break by an additional 14 days. The period thus goes from 21 to 35 days of closure. This measure concerns both teams and engine manufacturers involved in F1.

The “shutdown” remains a subject of discussion between stakeholders, according to the FIA press release. This therefore suggests that this break, taken in order to cancel the summer break to accommodate as many races as possible, could be further extended if other rounds of the calendar are postponed/cancelled.
