The FIA adopts a reform of the Court of Appeal

Meeting in Monaco on December 11, the FIA International Court of Appeal decided to adopt a new system for the appointment of judges concerning appeals of the World Championship. Formula 1. Until now, the Court of Appeal was composed of a panel of judges elected from 18 countries.

From the 2010 season, in agreement with the FIA and the teams, a certain number of judges ?co-opted? will be offered by Formula 1 teams to handle disputes relating to the discipline. The Court of Appeal will then be composed of a panel of judges from the International Court of Appeal who will continue to form the majority as well as “co-opted” judges.

This decision was taken in order to strengthen the transparency and independence of the Court of Appeal. Judges ?co-opted? will also have the same functions, the same statutes and will be subject to the same rules as the elected judges.
