FIA reveals 1 F2019 changes and 2021 engine project

Following the last meeting of the Strategic Group and the Commission F1 this Tuesday in Paris, the FIA revealed the regulatory changes which will come into force in 2019 after ratification by its next World Council. The governing body also revealed its proposals for the engine that the single-seaters will carry from 2021.

According to a press release sent at the end of the various meetings attended by Jean Todt, president of the FIA, and Chase Carey, CEO of Formula 1, the 2019 modifications are as follows:

  • Increased the fuel limit from 105 kg to 110 kg per race so that drivers can use their engine power at all times
  • Separation of the mass of the pilot and the car
  • Obligation for pilots to wear biometric gloves in order to improve safety, particularly during the rescue phase

Discussions regarding possible aerodynamic changes will continue with the aim of ratifying potential changes before April 30.

Furthermore, ten days after Liberty Media's presentation of its post-2020 roadmap, the FIA confirmed which engine architecture was favored, namely a 6L turbo hybrid V1,6 without MGU-H, as announced as early as end of October.

Its technical department will now speak with current engine manufacturers and those potentially wishing to join the sport as Aston Martin to arrive at a final 2021 settlement by the end of May.
