FIA rules Vettel overtaking legal

Sebastian Vettel should not be worried about his third world title. The controversy grew this morning following a video uploaded to YouTube. The latter showed a contentious overtaking of the pilot Red Bull on Toro Rosso of Jean-Eric Vergne on the fourth lap of the Brazilian Grand Prix while the yellow flags were lit between turns 3 and 4. There Team confirmed having sent a letter to the FIA to request clarification.

The Federation was quick to respond, announcing through Autosport that the maneuver was legal and that it saw no reason to receive a call from a team. It is based on the presence of a commissioner waving a green flag between the two lights of different colors. According to the regulations, a flag waved before a fire must still be taken into account. However, the latter plays in favor of the triple world champion. If the overtaking had been declared illegal, the German could have received a 20-second penalty at the end of the race, dropping him to eighth place and losing the title by one point behind him. Fernando Alonso.
