Who will be the next tire supplier for the Formula 1 in 2025? The FIA will soon look into the issue by launching a call for tenders. As agreed during the last World Motor Sport Council organized in Bahrain at the beginning of March, the governing body of F1 will open negotiations with the various manufacturers interested in supplying the grid of the premier category from 2025 until 2027, with an option for 2028. The supplier must also supply the trays of Formula 2 as well as Formula 3 in tires over the same period.

Pirelli alone in the running?

Since 2011, Pirelli has been the sole supplier of Formula 1, and does not seem to want to let go of the discipline for the years to come. If the Italian manufacturer's contract ends in 2024, Pirelli should logically apply to continue the adventure with F1. The Lombard firm notably saw the increase in tires to 18 inches last season, thus guaranteeing the relevance of road tire technology. Currently, no other manufacturer has publicly expressed interest in joining F1 in two years.

“The targets have been agreed in consultation with commercial rights holders and teams, and are designed to ensure a wide operating range, minimize overheating, and have low degradation whilst providing the flexibility to vary the strategy, the governing body said in its statement. As part of the sport's efforts towards sustainability, the tender will require interested suppliers to provide an analysis of the tires' environmental impact. »

“Other technology updates will include the requirement for tires to be equipped with electronic identification to improve the efficiency of roadworthiness testing procedures”, added the FIA.

The new rain tires validated by the WMSC

The World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) organized in Bahrain had also ratified the changes announced last February regarding rain tires. Pirelli has managed to develop a rain compound that is more effective than those used in 2022 and which does not require heating blankets. These new rain tires will be available from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, in Imola (Italy) in May.
