The main phenomenon of the new single-seaters, porpoising will be reviewed by the FIA and its medical teams. In Azerbaijan over the weekend, this rebound phenomenon was very visible and many pilots complained of back pain, like a Lewis Hamilton out of breath at the arrival of the Grand Prix in the streets of Baku. The Federation was then consulted by teams so that measures could be taken on the subject and for the good of all. After listening, the governing body decided to take action citing security reasons.
« After the 8e round of the world championship Formula 1 of the FIA of this season during which the phenomenon of aerodynamic oscillations (porpoising) of the new generation of Formula 1 cars, and its effect during and after the race on the physical condition of the drivers, has once again been visible, the FIA, as the governing body of the sport, has decided that, in in the interest of safety, it is necessary to intervene to require that teams make the necessary adjustments to reduce or eliminate this phenomenon, » can we read in the press release of the FIA.
To do this, the FIA has published a technical directive “ to provide guidance to the teams on the measures the FIA intends to take to resolve the problem ". These measures include:
1. A closer examination of the floor, both in terms of its design and the wear observed.
2. The definition of a value, based on the vertical acceleration of the car, which will give a quantitative limit to the acceptable level of vertical oscillations. The exact mathematical formula for this measurement is still being analyzed by the FIA, and Formula 1 teams have been invited to contribute to this process.
In addition to its short-term measures, the FIA “ will convene a technical meeting with the teams in order to define measures that will reduce the propensity of cars to exhibit such phenomena in the medium term »

Ok it's for safety and that's good, but, it's also (above all?) a leveling down, I would never have thought of experiencing that in F1!
