FIA considers DRS for Monaco

The drivers have asked the FIA to remove the DRS zone in the Monaco tunnel, indicating that maintaining the system would be dangerous for the drivers, this zone being one of the only places where cars can overtake each other. The FIA will make its decision in less than 24 hours, but Charlie Whiting, racing director of the Federation, does not think a withdrawal will be useful.

« I spoke to the drivers and it is clear that the majority of them did not want to use it in Monaco », admits the FIA race director. “ We are not waiting for an accident to happen, but there is simply no evidence to show that it is dangerous. »

However, Charlie Whiting adds that withdrawal could be immediate in the event of danger. “ As this system was designed as an aid for overtaking, it would be immoral not to use it where overtaking is most frequent. However, if we notice any problem, we can remove it immediately. »
