The FIA takes over the Mercedes file after Monaco

The stewards of the Monaco Grand Prix made the result of the race official after meeting with the different teams following claim carried by Red Bull Racing and Team Ferrari against Mercedes who carried out a test session with Pirelli on the Catalunya circuit. Nico Rosberg will therefore keep his victory in the Principality.

On the other hand, the FIA could severely punish the Brackley team if it turns out that the tests violate the regulations. Pirelli and Mercedes defend themselves by citing a clause passed between the Italian manufacturer and the Federation, the latter having even been informed of the progress of this session. But the key to the matter lies in the use of the W04s for this session while they are currently competing in the Championship. The sporting regulations formally prohibit any team from carrying out tests during the season, except for aerodynamic tests carried out on straight lines. “After hearing and collecting the information, the commissioners will write a report to the FIA which could take the matter before the International Tribunal”, explained the final statement from the commissioners.
