FIA monitors coronavirus outbreak in China

High-level sport is obviously not immune to health risks. While the coronavirus epidemic, whose epicenter seems to have been identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has been gaining intensity for weeks, the FIA says it is monitoring the situation in close collaboration with local authorities, national sports associations, and the championships which are to take place there soon.

The Middle Kingdom must indeed welcome the Formula e on March 21 in the city of Sanya, located on the island of Hainan. However, the cycling tour planned on site from February 23 to March 1 was simply canceled by the International Cyclist Union.

From April 17 to 19, the Chinese Grand Prix will take place in the greater suburbs of Shanghai. The FIA affirms that the situation is not set in stone and refuses to speculate on whether or not the 4th round of the 2020 world championship will take place.

In an official statement, the World Health Organization and China “ noted that the number of reported cases, including outside China, is of great concern. It is urgent to know more about the transmissibility of the virus and the severity of the infection to guide other countries on the response measures to take ».
