Last weekend in Monaco, a meeting was held bringing together those responsible for three major FIA circuit championships, namely Ross Brawn, Motor Sports Director of the Formula 1, the president of WEC Gérard Neveu and the president of the Formula E Alejandro Agag. Gathered around Jean Todt, the FIA president, those responsible for the main FIA World Championships discussed the harmonization of calendars to avoid overlapping disciplines.
“With such a good choice of motor racing events for competitors, fans and viewers around the world, scheduling is one of the biggest challenges promoters face.”, commented Gérard Neveu.
“We all work hard to produce practical, economical and environmentally friendly calendars, and we try to avoid overlapping events between different championships. Our meeting in Monaco was positive and initiated a new process of harmonization of calendars to benefit all motorsport fans”, added Gérard Neveu.
If the overlap of 24 Hours of Le Mans and the European Grand Prix in 2016 did not pose any major problems, the overlap of the 6 Hours of the Nürburgring this year and the New York ePrix brings a logistical problem for the seven drivers entered in the two championships.
