FIA to re-examine Vettel – Hamilton collision

The FIA will reopen an investigation this Monday July 3 into the collision between Sebastian Vettel et Lewis Hamilton which occurred on June 25 at the Azerbaijan GP in Baku.

Sebastian Vettel hit the Mercedes W08 of Lewis Hamilton while the safety car was still on track. The pilot Ferrari had involuntarily hit the road for the first time car of the Briton after believing that the latter was braking. The telemetry data proved the German wrong.

If the stewards imposed a 10-second stop & go and a 3-point penalty on Sebastian Vettel's license, the Ferrari driver could receive a new sanction which could go as far as exclusion from a Grand Prix.

The four-time world champion has indeed been in the crosshairs of the FIA since he insulted Charlie Whiting, the FIA race director, at the 2016 Mexican Grand Prix held on October 30. The reopening of the investigation into the Baku incident was reportedly requested by FIA president Jean Todt.
