FIA wants single source for fuel system parts

After the internal components of the gearbox, the rims, and various braking systems, the FIA intends to standardize several parts of the fuel system F1 by 2021: fuel pumps, valve, and piping elements located between the tank and the pumps.

The latest federal call for tenders to date is thus part of the desire to standardize the premier category in terms of parts which do not generate performance, with the stated aim of reducing costs.

The call for applications again concerns the 2021-2024 seasons but the FIA reserves the right to extend the period to 2025 for the sake of regulatory stability and therefore asks interested technical partners to prepare their files accordingly.

Nikolas Tombazis, federal head of the single-seater series, recently reminded us that not all FIA calls for tenders launched for 2021 and beyond will succeed automatically. The regulatory body can in fact decide not to go through with the procedure if it considers that the expected savings will not materialize or if no candidate meets the stated criteria.

Parties interested in the sole supply of F1 fuel system components have until June 15, 2019 to apply, while the Federation will make its decision known a month later.
