La Formula 1 announced a revised calendar for the end of the 2021 season, this Saturday August 29 in the Spa-Francorchamps paddock (Belgium). Here are the main lessons.

The Turkish Grand Prix, contested at Istanbul Park, is postponed by one week to October 10, as are the Mexican Grand Prix in Mexico City (November 7) and the Brazilian Grand Prix scheduled for Sao Paulo (November 14). . These two meetings will be part of a “triple header”.

At the moment, 22 Grands Prix officially make up the 2021 season, but a 23rd date remains pending, scheduled for the second half of November. The location of the race should be confirmed in the coming weeks, but according to information we already had at the beginning of August, we would be heading towards an unprecedented trip to Losail, near the capital of Qatar, Doha.

Well known to two-wheel enthusiasts for welcoming the MotoGP since 2004, the Losail circuit should serve as a replacement for the Australian Grand Prix, while work has been carried out to give a facelift to the Albert Park track located in Melbourne.

Qatar has never hosted Formula 1, but rather GP2 Asia in 2009 and more recently the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) between 2015 and 2017, in night conditions.

The campaign must still end in the Middle East, first from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, on a brand new route, then at Yas Marina (Abu Dhabi) in December.

“We are very pleased to announce updates to the 2021 calendar following extensive discussions with promoters and national authorities, welcomed Stefano Domenicali, President of F1. Lhe pandemic continues to present challenges, but we have proven that we can adapt and we are confident that we can organize an record 22 races this year despite a global pandemic.

I would like to thank the promoters in Brazil, Mexico and Turkey for their patience and flexibility and we will provide details of the 23rd race soon »
