Wehrlein's crazy comeback

Pascal Wehrlein achieved his best result in F1 by securing tenth place at the Austrian Grand Prix. Starting from 12th position, the protégé of Mercedes completed his first two stints on ultra-soft tires but his race became complicated when the safety car entered the track following the accident. Sebastian Vettel.

“I was down at one point because we were a bit unlucky with our safety car strategy, explained the Manor pilot. I came out in last place when I made my second stop. It wasn't a great feeling, but we made do with what we had and I finished the race on the soft tires which completed 40 laps. »

This is the first time since the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix where Jules Bianchi took ninth place that Manor (formerly Marussia) has finished in the points.

“It’s amazing, I’m so happy! This conclusion is a fantastic reward for everyone, rejoiced the German. It is an absolute success to have been able to finish the race in the points from this position by completing more than half the race on a single set of tires. This is very important, not only for our place in the Championship, but it also proves that we have made real progress. We climbed step by step, some steps not necessarily being visible to people outside the team. »

It’s a great operation for Manor as it takes tenth place, leaving Sauber F1 Team last with no points scored this season.
