FOM supports Pirelli

The end of Belgian Grand Prix last August was marked by the explosion of the right rear tire of the Ferrari SF15-T Sebastian Vettel, then fighting for the podium with Romain Grosjean (Lotus). After a verbal skirmish between Vettel and Pirelli, who had argued that Ferrari's strategy was bold, the Italian manufacturer has made its conclusions this Thursday, excluding any defect on its products.

La Formula One Management published a press release this Thursday, which supports the work Pirelli has done since the arrival of the Milan firm in 2011. “Pirelli has been a premier partner of Formula One during the five seasons it has been the official tire supplier and we continue to have full confidence in the safety, quality and appropriate characteristics of its tires.

Within the limits of safety considerations, which are always paramount, the F1 encourages Pirelli to supply tire compounds with performance limitations, as tire degradation contributes to the challenge and entertainment of an F1 race.

Pirelli provides valuable advice to competitors on any performance limitations of the tires supplied. Competitors should consider expert advice from Pirelli when defining their race strategy and tactics, and if they do not do so, it is at their own risk.

We are satisfied that Pirelli is not responsible for any tire-related incidents during the Belgian Grand Prix. Pirelli offered to supply each car with a single set of tires to last an entire race. If we know they could do it, a race without pit stops would be less exciting. »

Recall that Pirelli to face Michelin with a view to the 2017 call for tenders for the supply of tires for the F1 field. Michelin reacted following the Vettel incident, via the voice of Pascal Couasnon, sports director of the Clermont firm.
