The starting grid for the 2019 Spanish Grand Prix

After the qualifying session held yesterday, Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) will start from pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix this Sunday, following an exceptional performance against his teammate Lewis Hamilton in Q3.

The Mercedes tandem is ahead Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) who is steadily continuing his start to the 2019 campaign with his RB15 – Honda. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Pierre Gasly (Red Bull) will share a 100% French-speaking third line.

The two follow Haas de Romain Grosjean et Kevin Magnussen, Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) and Lando Norris (McLaren) for the top 10. Daniel Ricciardo will observe his three-place penalty after his contact with Kvyat in Baku and will start 13th

George Russell (Williams) will bring up the rear, after receiving a five-place penalty for a gearbox change. This grid could still evolve if new sanctions were imposed this morning.

(Updated 12:11 p.m.): Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) will leave the pits for having changed front wing specification in qualifying (from the new to the old), without having notified the FIA. Stroll (Racing Point), Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo), Kubica and Russell (Williams) therefore move up one place from 16th to 19th place.

(Updated 12:37 p.m.): Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) is penalized five places on the starting grid for a gearbox change. The Italian should therefore start behind the two Williams of Kubica and Russell.
