It was to be expected, the McLaren have indeed dominated the qualifying of this 2025 Australian Grand Prix by securing the front row on the starting grid. This is Lando Norris who hit hard by taking pole position, the 10th of his career, this Saturday thanks to his only attempt after missing the first one (cancelled for non-compliance with track limits).

With a lap of 1'15"096, the Englishman beat his teammate Oscar piastri for only 84 thousandths. The MCL39s, and as expected, were well above the competition since Max Verstappen, despite all his suffering with his Red Bull, finished third, almost 4 tenths behind Lando Norris. This shows the lead that McLaren has at the start of the season. George Russell and an astonishing Yuki tsunoda completed the Top 5.

The disappointment comes from the side of Ferrari whose SF-25s will only occupy the 4th row on the starting grid for this 2025 Australian Grand Prix this Sunday (5:00 a.m.). Behind the McLarens and even Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc et Lewis Hamilton could not do better than 7th and 8th, respectively 0 and 659 from the reference of these qualifications.

Williams confirmed his good start to the year with a double appearance in Q3. Nevertheless, it was Alex Albon who preceded Carlos Sainz this time with the 6th time for the Englishman against only the 10th for the Spaniard.

On the tricolor side, Pierre Gasly was the only representative to reach Q3. He will start 9th on the grid this Sunday. Isack Hadjar also had good qualifying on the sidelines of his first Grand Prix in F1The Parisian set the 11th fastest time and missed out on Q3 by less than a tenth. Proof that he has adapted well. Disappointment for Esteban Ocon whose difficulties of Haas were confirmed with only the 19th time.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Liam Lawson were both knocked out in Q1. The former suffered damage to his floor, which caused him to lose a lot of performance, while the latter seemed to be struggling throughout.

For a McLaren and Williams fan like me for over 40 years, it's a rather jubilant starting grid.

No big surprises after this first qualifying of the year, with McLaren in front followed by Verstappen, Russell and the 1 Ferraris! Confirmation that Williams will certainly fight at the top of the "midfield" with Ridiculous Bulls and perhaps Alpine.

3rd with a "tank"!... And so the Horner/MV pair continues to cheat between Q1 & Q3 like the two previous years, compare the RB's times between the start of a session and the middle, and you will perhaps understand one day how the car is miraculously lightened while doing its best lap... there is however only one possibility and while coming out "compliant" in terms of weight from the said session, in the event of the car being weighed... To your brains! ML.
