Max Verstappen was once again imperial in the exercise of qualifications. Behind during Q1 and Q2, the Dutchman chose the best time to set his time. Result ? Pole position with a 1’27″241. Charles Leclerc completes the first row (1'27″382). Carlos Sainz narrowly ahead Sergio Perez, which is in 4th place. The two men are separated by 0″005 thousandths.

Another encouraging qualification fromAlpine…and maybe even a little disappointing. Both cars moved into Q2 and looked to be almost on pace to move into Q3. Pierre Gasly will start 12th on the grid, Esteban Ocon just behind, in 13nd place.

Descent into hell for Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian, who scored the first points of his season during the Sprint race (4th at the finish), did not manage to get out of Q1. With a 1’28″617 which places him 18th. To top it off, Honey Badger will finally start in last position since he received 3 penalty places at the Chinese Grand Prix.
