Outstripped by Valtteri Bottas in tests, Lewis Hamilton put everyone in agreement in qualifying. Using a different strategy to that of his teammate, the Englishman won the 97th pole of his career ahead of the Finn.
The only pilot able to “worry” the Mercedes, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) settled for third place but could play spoilsport this Sunday in the Algarve. Equipped with the latest improvements on its car, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) signed an encouraging 4th place.
The Monegasque will still have to be careful behind him since Sergio Pérez (Racing Point), Alexander albon (Red Bull) and McLaren (Carlos Sainz et Lando Norris) will attack it from the first hectometers of the race.
Present in Q3 at the wheel of his Alpha Tauri, Pierre Gasly will start 9th in front of the Renault de Daniel Ricciardo et Esteban Ocon.
Despite a rather encouraging start to the weekend, Sebastian Vettel missed out in qualifying and only started 15th this Sunday. Behind him are the Alfa Romeo by Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi and the Haas de Romain Grosjean et Kevin Magnussen. Nicholas latifi on his Williams Close the door on him.
