Radio becomes almost free

Twist in the radio communications affair. After several adjustments, notably during the Hungarian Grand Prix after the episode of the penalty inflicted on Nico Rosberg after the Silverstone race, the Strategic Group of the F1 decided to no longer restrict almost all communications between the driver and his pit. Only the training round must be carried out with total silence between the two parties.

On the other hand, the governing bodies required full access for the FOM to radio communications. “This approach aims to provide enhanced content for fans and viewers. Teams will now be required to provide the commercial rights holder with unrestricted access to their radio messages at any time the cars are outside the garage. » specifies the FIA press release.

This is the second important decision coming from the F1 Strategic Group this Thursday, after the postponement of the introduction of a cockpit protection system to 2018.
