TV production wants to innovate in 2019 with real-time calculations

This has not escaped you, in 2018 the TV production of the Grands Prix of Formula 1 proposed a total overhaul of its graphics. Then, mid-season, average corner speed data appeared on the screens. This device is provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS), a branch of the famous online store Amazon and dedicated to cloud services for businesses.

The association between the American GAFA member and F1 is strengthened for next season with the addition of evolving statistics. Friday, Ross Brawn was a guest at an AWS press conference. Liberty Media Motor Sports Director revealed three tools that Formula One Management (FOM, responsible for recording the races) could broadcast at will in 2019.

1. Probability of exceedance
What are the chances of a driver who defends his position? Will the car that takes its aspiration succeed in overtaking for sure? If so, will the attack be on the inside or outside of the turn? This graph offers all the answers to these questions. Be careful, it goes quickly!

2. Condition of the car
Even if radio communications can make it possible to know more, it is not easy for the viewer to be aware of the state of a car during a GP. This graph would allow you to know in real time the temperature of the tires, their degradation, as well as the temperature of the coolant and oil.

3. Gap between pit stops
The most complex graphic for the novice eye is also the most strategic for the fan. With clever calculations, it would be possible to know if a driver is going to overtake an opponent thanks to an offset pit-stop. So, we no longer have to wait feverishly for the pit exit to get excited (or angry) about an overtake linked to a tire change.

What do you think ?
The best part of this story is the proposal made by Ross Brawn and AWS. Fans can give their opinion via internet voting. Go to this page (in English only) to make your opinion heard.
