The holding of the Chinese Grand Prix in limbo

Endorsed last December by the World Motor Sport Council, the calendar for the 2021 season Formula 1 could already be experiencing its first changes. While a postponement of the Australian Grand Prix, the opening round, is livening up the debates, another meeting in the first part of the next campaign could suffer the same fate. This is the Chinese Grand Prix.

Scheduled for April 11, the meeting on the Shanghai circuit is in doubt. Indeed, its promoter, Juss Event, is discussing with Liberty Media to postpone the arrival of Formula 1 on Chinese soil.

« We have been in contact with Formula 1 via conference in recent weeks, explained Yibin Yang, general manager of Juss Event, to local media. Despite the schedule in place, I think it is very uncertain whether an F1 race will take place during the first part of the year. ».

It is not yet confirmed but everything suggests that China will have to wait before welcoming the paddock again. Juss Event notably mentions a Grand Prix in the second half of the year.

« We are considering a change of date for the second part of the year, underlines Yibin Yang. We have formally submitted the proposal ". However, this postponement depends on the authorities of the city of Shanghai according to the general director of Juss Event.

« If we organize all international events in the second half of the season, it will be beyond the city's capacity. Any event requires large public resources such as the police or health services. This would lead to a lack of resources, in addition to marketing conflicts between events ". Suspense.
