Turkey officially joins the 2020 calendar

They succeeded. At least on paper. Liberty Media announced this Tuesday the 4 new dates which will probably close a 2020 season of Formula 1 unpublished.

After the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola (Italy) on November 1, the premier discipline of motorsport will return to a destination it has not visited since 2011 (victory of Sebastian Vettel with Red Bull): Turkey and its Istanbul Park whose layout was very popular with drivers, notably the large curve to the left of turn 8 and its 4 apexes.

The Turkish meeting will take place from November 13 to 15. The route must, however, be approved by the FIA before obtaining the final green light.

The 2020 campaign will then continue with a triple meeting in the Persian Gulf. Two races will be organized in Bahrain, on November 29 and December 6. The grand finale will take place at the Yas Marina track in Abu Dhabi on December 13.

F1 also confirms that it will not go to China, but makes no mention of Vietnam or Jerez in Andalusia, which was once anticipated.

These new announcements bring to 17 the number of races confirmed or having already taken place this year. Given the health situation, this is no small feat. Chase Carey, CEO of the F1 Group who has always said he wants to aim for between 15 and 18 meetings (in particular to honor contracts with TV broadcasters) also wanted to salute all the stakeholders in building this calendar.

Liberty finally specifies that some of the upcoming races could accommodate a limited number of spectators.
