Victory ? Not yet possible for Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso still dreams of a 33rd victory but... Florent Gooden / DPPI

Fernando Alonso would he backtrack after having displayed his ambitions when joining Aston Martin ? Not really. By joining the Greens, the double world champion indicated that he hoped to be at the forefront more regularly and why not score a small victory if the opportunity presented itself.

But his start to the campaign ignited his aficionados who now dream of seeing him fight against Max Verstappen for Grand Prix victories but also for the title at the end of the year. Bad news for them, the Asturian calmed them down at the dawn of the second meeting of the campaign.

« Patience, I don't think it's possible at the moment, even less with Red Bull who is so strong, proclaimed the Spaniard in the mixed zone when talking about dreams of victory. Whether Ferrari, Mercedes or us, we can't realistically think about a win right now."

Although he wants to be realistic about the hierarchy of the peloton, Fernando Alonso is nevertheless not pessimistic in hoping to achieve a victory in the 22 remaining Grands Prix. According to the former pilot Renault, being in the right place at the right time could allow him to climb to the top of the podium 10 years after his last career success (2013 Spanish Grand Prix).

« If you are among the first four, five, there are always races where events happenHe says. DNFs, a poorly executed pit stop, a Safety Car that works in your favor... and the possibilities become greater. But that’s not something we have in mind right now. » The “Misión 33” is well underway but its fans will have to wait before seeing Fernando Alonso pop the champagne of victory again.
