The Williams FW41 is discovered

Williams is the second team to lift the veil on its car for season 2018 of Formula 1. The FW41 was presented in 3D on Thursday evening to the specialized media. There FW41 will be piloted this year by the Canadian Lance stroll and the Russian rookie Sergey sirotkin.

Visually, the FW41 stands out from its big sister by the introduction of the Halo (painted white), but also by an engine cover which does not use a T-Wing or a shark fin as the regulations now prohibit . The bottom of the chassis is painted black, but it is possible to distinguish pontoons almost identical to those of the Ferrari SF70H, very worked.

The S-Duct is also present on the top of the nose of the car, an element that is noticeable with a break in the shape of the snout in front of the wheel arch. Paddy Lowe, Head of the Technical Department, explains the philosophy behind the creation of this single-seater. “Externally, the team followed a very different concept from recent years which allowed us to make significant progress on aerodynamic performance. All F1 cars are evolutions, but FW41 includes a number of new tracks. Overall, the philosophy that appears is a new approach in the collaboration between aerodynamics and design to achieve optimal work. »

“Aerodynamics, structure and weight are the three major areas when it comes to creating an F1 car. All this work, plus a number of radical changes to the car's package to incorporate the Power Unit improvements Mercedes led to this FW41. We hope this car will help us make progress in the standings compared to 2017.”

Present on stage, the reserve and development pilot Robert Kubica indicated that he would take part in three free practice sessions during the year on Friday, notably at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona and the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull ring.
