The new technical regulations aim to reduce the aerodynamic disturbances generated by single-seaters, in order to encourage overtaking. The rim flanges, and the deflectors overhanging the front wheels, participate in this effort, with success it seems, in view of the first Grand Prix, in Bahrain. The following car now receives less volume of disturbed air, retains aero load while benefiting from a suction effect and can therefore get closer more easily, and have better overtaking opportunities.
